How to Use Social Media for Job Searching

(Lesson 4.3 – Online Course)

Social media isn’t just for fun anymore

Today, social media is one of the most powerful tools for job searching, showcasing your skills, and building professional connections.

More and more employers check your online presence before inviting you to an interview – and some even post job opportunities exclusively on social media!

For deaf and hard of hearing youth, social media can create equal access to opportunities by allowing you to express yourself through text, video, sign language, or visuals — in the format that suits you best.

How to choose the right platform?

What to post (and what not to)?

Before you start applying:

Use a clear, friendly profile photo
Update your bio to reflect your goals and interests
Remove posts that may appear unprofessional
Highlight your communication style (e.g. “Sign language user”)

Good content to share:

Your skills, achievements, and projects

CVs, infographics, or portfolio links

Video intros with captions or in sign language

Posts about your learning or personal growth

Content that shows your values (volunteering, teamwork, creativity)

Avoid sharing:

Negative comments about jobs, schools, or employers

Private or sensitive personal details

Inappropriate language, offensive memes, or unclear posts

How to search and find opportunities

Social media is full of opportunities — if you know how and where to look.

Try using keywords and hashtags like:

#JobSearch

#Internship

#RemoteJob

#CreativeJob

For inclusive workplaces or identity-affirming spaces, try:

#AccessibleHiring

#DeafTalent

#InclusionMatters

Join Facebook or LinkedIn groups, such as:

Remote Jobs for Creatives

Deaf Professionals Network

Youth for Inclusion – Europe

These groups are great places to:

Find job openings before they go public

Ask questions and share your experience

Explore and connect with inclusive communities

Conclusion

Social media today is more than social — it’s your digital tool for job searching, personal branding, and discovering new opportunities.

With a bit of strategy and authenticity, you can present yourself in a way that shows your value, personality, and potential — in the language and format that works best for you.
